•This book is best enjoyed during a power outage or Wi-Fi blackout, or any other time you find yourself having a pity party about your circumstances. It will quickly put things into perspective and shift your outlook on life.
•While devouring this book I experienced awe and grief and joy and sorrow all at the same time. It broke my heart into a million little pieces, then delicately put it all back together. That’s what I love most about Mia Sheridan’s writing.
•From the first page I was instantly drawn to the characters and their backstories. It’s set in a remote coal mining town in Kentucky where most residents are struggling to keep a roof over their heads and food on their tables. Kyland is a highschool senior who has spent his whole life fighting to survive against difficult odds. Tenleigh, also a senior, lives in a trailer with her sister and mentally unstable mom.
•I could talk for hours about Kyland and Tenleigh but I wouldn’t do them justice. Their instant and deep connection is unmistakeable. It’s really beautiful to watch it unfold, but I kept my heart guarded because I knew I was in for an emotional roller coaster. Buckle up for a beautiful ride in which two gifted individuals try desperately to map out a better future for themselves, seeking a life where it’s not a constant cycle of scraping and struggling, despite the odds that always seem to be stacked against them. It’s a timeless tale of love and sacrifice.
•Favorite quote from the book: “You pierce my soul. I am half agony, half hope.” 🥺 Truer words never spoken. I felt the desperation and longing deep in my bones. This is another 5 star read that carved a special place in my heart and pierced my soul. If you loved Archer’s Voice by Mia Sheridan, you will cherish this book. 🫶🏻
